EXPORTING for NAVISWORKS
Although Navisworks can directly import Revit (.RVT) files it has problems.
The best way to get your Revit model into Navisworks is to export it in a different format.
Navisworks does better clash detection than Revit, so the most likely reason to import Revit models into Navisworks is to do this.
But for this to work the elements from each discipline you want to do a check on must be in seperate files.
So you may need to do multiple exports.
Known Issues
NavisWorks exporter (NWC) only exports geometry that is visible at a FINE level of detail, if fine is unchecked it will not be exported, and it does not matter what your view is set to if you select export current view, it will still go to fine.
DWFx
Navisworks can import DWFx files. DWFx file keep many Revit categories and parameters intact.
Create a 3D view containing the elements you want to export.
Under the R symbol top left select Export > DXFx.
Repeat for separate elements to do clash detection against.
DWG
Navisworks can import DWG files, but all categories and parameter information will be lost.
Create a 3D view containing the elements you want to export.
Under the R symbol top left select Export > CAD format > DWG.
Repeat for separate elements to do clash detection against.
NWC
Navisworks uses a file format called Navisworks Cache (NWC).
AutoDesk provide an exporter that can be installed as an add-in to Revit.
First install the add-in:
Get the importer from AutoDesk web site, or here:
. . .\00 Revit Resource\REVIT software\Exporter-Importers
Run the install.
To create an export file:
Create a 3D view containing the elements you want to export. Hide things you don't want to export.
under the purple R, > Export > NWC.
(You can set a whole lot of settings, but defaults are OK.)
Create multiple views containing separate elements if required for clash detection in Navisworks.
Note that if you are using Navisworks, it creates .NWC files for each imported (called 'appended' in Navisworks) file that is not already a NWC file (e.g. DWFx, DWG etc files).
If you are creating NWC files from Revit use file names that are different from file names of any other file types.
