Wright 3
Blue Balliett
Balliett, Blue, The Wright 3. Scholastic Press. New York. NY. 2006.
Blue Balliett is a more modern author who wrote the international bestseller Chasing Vermeer. The book The Wright 3 is one of her less famous books, but has a very interesting background. Just recently, in 2000 some descendants of the Wright Brothers found a very old journal in the Wright brothers childhood home. In 2005, a summarized book was made out of the enters from the journal. The Wright 3 is based on these journal entrees.
The book The Wright 3 is about the Wright brothers and their sister when they were young. The sister is now long forgotten and this story tells why. When their parents died, they had to move to their uncle’s house. Their uncle was a retired superhero.
While they were there, they got to know and love their uncle. One day, their sister went missing. When their sister returned she had superpowers. She could turn anything to glass.
Word got around from newspapers and so the super villain Gobletron found out. He wanted to use her superpowers to his advantage. He kidnapped her while she was sleeping. The Wright brother’s and their uncle tried to stop them but it was too late.
A few weeks later, Gobletron figured that he should get the Wright brothers too. While the kids are at school their uncle is mysteriously killed. Alone, they don’t know how they will defend themselves, get away, or how to find their sister?
The Wright 3 is a very well illustrated book shows that superheros are real. If you like adventure stories, this is the one for you. After reading this book people might wonder “is my uncle a retired superhero?”
