Clements, Andrew. Things Not Seen. Penguin Putnam Books. New York, NY. 2002.
Things Not Seen , by Andrew Clements was written in October 2002. This book hasn’t won any awards but it’s great book for people who are interested in fiction.
Things Not Seen is about a boy named Taylor who doesn't see things as the rest of his family or friends. In his eyes, every letter has its own different color and every number has its own symbol. When Taylor told his parents about this condition they thought he was crazy and didn't bother to do anything about it. Kids at school made fun of him for writing each letter in a different color. One day while he was at the playground a girl named Jenna asked Taylor if he ever saw the letter L in the color yellow. Taylor was very surprised when he heard that. The answers to his questions that he has been looking for all his life was right in front of him.
Weeks pass, Taylor and Jenna had become really good friends. Just like Taylor, Jenna sees letters and numbers differently, but they don't appear the same as Taylor's. One day, Taylor and Jenna talked to their school therapist about how things appear in their eyes. The therapist told them this is a condition that many people have and it’s not easy to live with this condition unless people see it your way.
After their meeting with the the therapist, they Googled some things about the condition that they had and they found some social activities for kids and adults that have conditions like these. At one of the social activities, they got to meet a lot of kids their age and were happy to find out that they weren't alone.
Things Not Seen is a great and interesting book. With its great description and fantastic dialog there is no way the reader will put this book down.
