Mr. Kepler, Tom. The Stone Dragon. Wise Moon Books. Fairfield, Iowa. 2011
The Stone Dragon, written by Tom Kepler, is a spectacular fantasy novel for young adults. This book is filled with action and adventure, and a touch of mystery. This book was written in 2011, and will inspire readers and writers for years to come.
The Stone Dragon is about an inch tall dwarf that was exploring in the forest. He came upon a cave with green limestone in it. Curious, he ventured in, only to find the greatest adventure of his life. As he went in, a boulder fell in front of the opening of the cave, blocking his way out. Thankfully, he had some matches to light the way. The first thing he saw, was a skeleton, about the size of a human. He had heard some rumors about humans, such as that they were one hundred feet tall, and ate dwarves for breakfast. He continued on, until he saw a glimmer of light. Rushing towards it, he slid down a hill. He was rushing towards the light, and then he was in a whole different world.
This world was filled with lush green pastures, and animals one hundred times the size of him. While walking around he saw a sign that said on it, “Welcome to the Overworld”. He felt nervous, and just then a human passed by. He jumped on the human, and was carried to an inn. There, he overheard a plot to steal the stone dragon, which supposedly carried a diamond, the most important jewel in the Overworld. It was said to be located in the Dragon’s Armpit of Despair. He journeyed there with a few supplies and a knife for protection. Nearing the destination, he decided to sleep. The next morning, he was awoken by a rustle in the leaves. The thing that caused this noise was the dragon that lived in the Dragons’ Armpit of Despair. He went into the cave, and then darkness covered him.
The Stone Dragon written by Tom Kepler is a great book, filled with medieval action and mystery. I enjoyed this book a lot, and I hope if you get the chance to read this, you will too.
