She plays pretend, imagining what it'd be like to live a richer life. She wished every night that she could live in a palace and eat fancy, delicate food in her evening wear.
When she gets older, she gets a job working in a local bakery. One day, a boy about her age comes in to buy loafs of bread. Emma overhears him talking to the cashier and walks over to listen more closely. She learns that he’s buying the bread for a formal banquet that his parent’s are hosting. Emma is quickly intrigued, and steps over next to the cashier. Jacob, the boy buying the bread starts talking to Emma. Jacob starts coming into the bakery at least, two or three times a week.
Years later, after spending lots of time with Jacob, Emma start dating him and they begin living together. She got her wish of living in a palace with fancy clothes and nice jewelry. One day, Emma plans a picnic in the garden for her and Jacob. She was waiting on the bench when Jacob’s brother Andrew comes running up to her. He tells Emma that Jacob was shot when he was buying her engagement ring at a fine jewelery store. A robber ran in and Jacob tried to protect the ring, but the man shot him. Jacob was soon dead. Emma cried and cried for many weeks. Emma was a strong girl though, she would get through this somehow. Emma went on living her life; she thought of Jacob almost everyday.
