The Tower Treasure
The Hardy Boys
Dixon, Franklin W. The Tower Treasure. Grosset & Dunlap. New York City. 1927.
The Tower Treasure is about two young boys who heard a rumor of treasure in a deserted mansion and go to investigate it. The Tower Treasure was written by Franklin W. Dixon in 1927. This book is the first book of The Hardy Boys® series. There are many great adventure books in the Hardy Boy series but critics say this book is the best.
The Tower Treasure is about two young boys, named Bruce and Clark, who want to earn money but are having a hard time doing it. They went to great lengths to earn
money but earning money didn’t go so well. They were caught stealing from an old man across the street. They were taken to jail for the night but the old man dropped the charges and they were freed. Later in school, a classmate confronts the boys telling them how cool they are for going to jail but the two boys did not listen as he went jabbering on, because they weren’t that happy about it. The classmate then mentioned something about treasure in an abandoned mansion on the other side of town. Their curiosity quickly kicked in.
Clark and Bruce decided that before they went barging in the mansion, they
would do some research on the mansion. The two boys went to OldArticles.com and found out that the owner has been dead for 100 years but booby-traps remain in the building. Bruce and Clark set out for the mansion. They arrived at a large gate but decided the gate could be a trap, so they sent their RC Truck into the gate. The RC Truck was then smashed to pieces by a flying boulder. The two boys search around the
mansion for another entrance. Clark fell in a hole and landed in front of the ancient remains of a lost body. Clark grabbed a book that was in the skeleton’s hand and Bruce helped him out. Bruce opened the book and discovered it was a guide on how to get into the mansion unharmed.
When Bruce and Clark were in the mansion looking for the treasure, they suddenly heard footsteps and hid. A man with a rust-bucket flashlight walked by them. The boys decided to follow the man but lost him. As they were leaving they remembered that there is one place that they haven’t looked, the tower on the north side of the building. Clark and Bruce head up to the top of the tower. They saw nothing until Bruce slipped and his back hit a switch. Clark and Bruce stood completely still while creaking noises go on in the walls all around them.
The Tower Treasure is a fantastic book for kids to read. The authenticity of the story is
quite amazing. This book simulates the process of learning from your mistakes while being a great adventure book.
