The Hidden City
David Eddings
Eddings, David. The Hidden City. Ballantine Publishing Group. New York, NY. 1994.
The Hidden City, by David Eddings, is an action-packed book. Every chapter is more exciting and adventurous than the chapter before, which is very enjoyable. The Hidden City is like no other book, especially its creative storyline that you will likely enjoy, and the unique and mysterious characters.
The Hidden City, starts off with a seventeen year-old boy named Wilfred, who just moved into the sunny state of California. Everything is going perfectly, until his car breaks down. Wilfred decided that he should stay in a motel until his car gets fixed, because he still hasn’t found an apartment to stay in. Wilfred starts to write in his journal, when he sees a not so-small trap door behind his bed.
Wilfred is extremely curious at what might be behind the wooden door. Wilfred decides to call up the owner of the motel and ask what it is, but the owner just thinks Wilfred is crazy and hangs up. Now Wilfred must find out what is behind that trap door. Wilfred suddenly thinks “What if there’s treasure, or ancient artifacts inside?” Wilfred decides to go to a supply shop and buys a crowbar, a drill, and a large hammer. After hours of trying to get the bed (which is bolted to the ground) out of its place, Wilfred finally does it!
Wilfred slowly opens the mysterious door. As he opens the trapdoor he is speechless. There is a little tunnel which Wilfred decides to go into. Suddenly he wakes up in a mysterious land. He can’t remember anything, “What happened?” Wilfred says. Wilfred is suddenly faced with many difficult challenges. He will have to battle an uncountable amount of monsters and goblins while also having to steal a secret journal from an unknown man.
The Hidden City is by far one of the best adventure books out there. It is a quick read, so you won’t have to worry about the storyline lagging on whatsoever. The Hidden City is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys action-adventure books. It has so much going on in the storyline that this book could have been written as a series!
