Hawksmaid, by the author Kathryn Lasky, is a fictional book that ages twelve and up love to read. This book has adventure, romance and mystery. Kathryn Lansky has also written the books: Guardians of Ga’hoole, The Man Who Made Time Travel, Georgia Rises, and others.
Most people know the story of Robin Hood and Maid Marian, or at least they think they do. Hawksmaid is the true story of Robin Hood and Maid Marian. Hawksmaid is about a young girl named Melissa, and her lover Arthur. Arthur is poor, very kind and giving. he works at the castle as a guard. He gives most of the money he earns to starving children. Melissa is the princess and her parents are forcing her to wed but the Princess Melissa, does not want to have an arranged marriage. She want to find true love, so she runs away.
Arthur works the night shift at the castle and Princess Melissa bumps into him accidentally. Arthur fall backwards with Melissa, and for the first time, they lay eyes on each other. Arthur doesn’t know that Melissa is the princess, so he reports that someone is trying to break into the castle. After he reports her, Arthur is sentenced to get his head chopped off for communicating with the Princess. Melissa tries to save his life, because she blames herself for trying to sneak out of the castle.
Melissa sneaks into the dungeon to meet Arthur and tell him that she is going to try and break him free. Every night after that she goes to see Arthur. Soon enough, they both fall in love with each other, and because of that Melissa is more determined to save Arthur’s life.
Hawksmaid is a wonderful book to read. It is well written and pulls everyone in so no one never want to stop reading. All and all, Kathryn Lasky wrote an amazing book.
