Trouble According to Humphrey is about a curious little mouse named Humphrey. Humphrey one day realizes he hasn't seen much in his life and runs off to see the world with his own eyes instead of pictures.
One day, Humphrey sets off on an adventure to see the world. He starts off at his home in apartment D 213 of the Empire State Building. He looks for the quickest route out and decides to take the vent down. Along the way he sees a couple of mean mice. He tries to avoid them but they spot him in the corner of their eyes. He tries to run but he wasn’t quick enough and, before you know it, Humphrey is pinned down to the ground.
“Help!” screams Humphrey! He thought this was the end. But he was no quitter. He thought quickly and came up with an idea. He looked to his right and saw a pin. He took it with his tail and poked it into the mouse's hand. “Ouch!” screamed the mouse. This was his chance to get away. He made a run for it and screamed “freedom.”
Birney Betty does a great job leaving the reader wondering what will happen next on this mouse’s adventure. Trouble According to Humphrey is great for children who have just started reading because of it’s playful feel to it.
