Herriot, James. All Things Bright and Beautiful. Bantam. New York, New York. 1974.
All Things Bright and Beautiful written by James Herriot is a story about two farmers named Bob and Sally, and their son named Jimmy. All Things Bright and Beautiful was written a very long time ago, in 1896. This book is based off a real story but a lot of it was made up to make the story more interesting.
Farmer Bob owns a farm, with his wife, Sally, and their son, Jimmy. Bob takes care of the animals, like pigs, cows and sheep. Sally takes care of the vegetation and garden. Jimmy, who is only seven, roams around the farm seeking for anything interesting. One day, he gets it.
Bob wakes up early one day to feed to the animals only to see they are all missing. They call the police, their neighbors, and even the pet department to see if any of them can help find the animals. Jimmy looks everyday for any kind of clues of who may of took them.
About a week later, Jimmy finds a trail of hay leading into the nearby woods. He follows it for about two miles before he finds anything. In between two very big oak trees, is a large metal barn. Jimmy looks for a door. He can’t find one anywhere. Out of frustration he kicks the wall of the barn, and the wall collapses. Behind the fallen wall is all the animals. Standing in front of all the animals is a old man, who is staring at Jimmy.
All Things Bright and Beautiful is a wonderful book for those who like mystery and adventure. It is sometimes even a amazing book for parents to read to their kids, but even adults can enjoy this book.
