The Great Hunt
Robert Jordan
Jordan, Robert. The Great Hunt. Tor Books. New York, NY. 1990.
The Great Hunt is an exciting book about the Medieval Ages. Elves run wild as crime and sorcery influence the common man. Robert Jordan outdid himself in this sequel of The Great Hunt. The first book in the series, The Wheel Of Time, captured many readers. Joy ran through many peoples hearts when they heard of the second book.
The Great Hunt makes you stop and wonder; who wouldn’t want to posses the power to control time? The Evil King, Gazeroth, has already sent men out to capture this item of power. As always, Ethan Raymand, must stop the world from falling into chaos. Once he runs into the Evil King’s men, they capture him, threatening him to not see daylight again. Hours later, a strange man much shorter than average and with pointed ears, came. An elf came to rescue him from the Evil Kings men. You could tell he was part of the Good King’s army by looking at his scarf. It had the Royal Seal on it. The elf said, “The Good Army will aid you on your journey to the the all powerful Wheel.”
It turns out, the most evil force in the land were not the only one searching for The Wheel of Time. Almost every commoner had been searching ever since the news had spread across the land. This would only complicate matters for all parties. Whoever found the Wheel first would be ruler of the world for all ages. The Good Army’s plan was to capture it and let it govern time in peace.
Ethan thought he had made it to the Wheel first, but a short battle changed his mind. Again he was in the hands of Gazeroth’s army. Ethan remembered his belt which he gained during his last adventure to find The Eye of the World. The gems embedded around it produced a large amount of light which he used to blind the guards. Ethan had to destroy the Wheel of Time to keep it from getting into the hands of evil. What will happen, will Ethan be successful in stopping the wheel from falling into the hands of evil?
The Wheel of Time has been called, “A 1990’s number one series.” by The National Book Fair. If you liked this taste of the adventure your’re in luck because there are many more books in the series and definatly more on their way. This is only the start of something great.
