Dandelion Fire
N.D. Wilson
Wilson, N.D. Dandelion Fire. Yearling. New York, New York. 2009.
Dandelion Fire is a satisfactory book made by N.D. Wilson in 2007. This book is published by Yearling, one of the more well known book publishers, but this book is unique, in a bad way. The author has many other great books like The 100 Cupboards, the prequel to Dandelion Fire.
Dandelion Fire starts off with Tom, a farm boy. One night, he finds a key, and he thinks it unlocks the barn in his backyard. He goes inside the barn through the windows. Tom opens a cupboard in the barn and sees a whole field of glowing dandelions. He decides to explore more of this in the morning.
Next morning, when Tom wakes up, he sees on TV that people died in an earthquake. Tom went to the back yard into the barn, looking through the cupboard. He notices a big patch of blackness in the middle of the dandelion field. There’s a fireplace that gives the light in the dandelions. One dandelion in the field is one soul here on Earth. If the light goes out in one of the dandelions, then that person or animal just died. A ghost comes right through the cupboard doors. The ghost points with archaic fingers to the patch of blackness and says that you will die like those people.
N.D. Wilson has a wonderful imagination that creates novels like Dandelion Fire. The end is captivating; you should read this book, too
