Tom is a farm boy in the small town of Haddock, Missouri. He dreams of adventure and decides that the only way that can happen is if he takes the initiative and goes on one himself. So he makes preparations to begin his journey.
He decides to build a raft and float down the Mississippi river. He has a number of problems from the start, mainly concealing his work from his mom and aunt, but also finding materials. He ends up needing money to buy supplies so he and some of his friends paint the fence of his neighbor.
Tom launches his raft and it sinks to the bottom of the Mississippi River just when things are going so well. Learning from his mistakes, he builds a better one and this time it floats. Then he raids his pantry for supplies and in the dead of night he creeps away and pushes off into the river.
All goes well and he sails along peacefully. Then it rains and keeps raining. The water level on the river rises and then it starts racing along. Tom gets thrown from the raft and struggles to stay afloat...
The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer is truly a great classic. It raises your spirits and makes you dream of glory and adventure. Mark Twain is one of the greatest story writers ever and his masterpiece, The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer shows it.
