The Da Vinci Code
Dan Brown
Brown. Dan, The Da Vinci Code. Doubleday Group. New York, NY. 2003.
The Da Vinci Code is a great crime and suspense novel by Dan Brown. He is a master at leaving his audience suspecting, but never succeeding. To this very day, The Da Vinci Code is revered by many readers. Although the plot is a bit slow to catch on, this book can only be thoroughly indulged upon by readers who have the utmost respect for literature.
The Da Vinci Code begins with the murder of the astrophysicist Paul Moore. Once his brother Greg hears of this news, he demands answers. The killer left an old piece of paper with numbers scattered across it. “The only hope I have for justice is a lousy code?” Greg is furious with the law system. They won’t even investigate the knife wound in Paul’s chest. Greg had to face the present, or he would have no justice for his brother. If he only knew the reason Paul was murdered, he would have never gone searching. Driven by rage, the next thing Greg Moore knew, he was on a plane to where his brother was murdered: Rome, Italy. He would have better luck with the detective agency, plus his oldest brother would be there to meet him. The original evidence would be there as well, but when he would arrive in Rome, his life would never be the same.
When landing at the Rome International Airport, Greg saw the Roman Colosseum: to his surprise, the Colosseum looked like a disaster site. Ambulances, police cars and news reporters were densely peppered throughout the scene. The Colosseum was gone, replaced by rubble. Greg and his brother, Roger, drove over to the police station to talk about the murder of their brother and the Colosseum. An inspector at the station said, “We think these actions are connected. Paul had a breakthrough in his work. He found the key to interstellar travel! Most of his work was based beneath the coliseum. The only hope we have of continuing Paul’s research is in this code.”
After months of deciphering the numbers, Greg and Roger made great progress. All of Paul’s work was based on Leonardo Da Vinci’s work. The investigation crew found a company called Aztech was related with the murder. Aztech is all about getting rid of new technology because they think it will bring chaos to the world. It’s all a matter of time before Aztech can get to Greg and Roger; will they get out of Rome alive?
The Da Vinci Code was a New York Times Best Seller in 2003. It also won many awards at national book fairs all across the United States. It is loved by many and has been made into a movie. Unfortunately, more people have seen the movie than read the book. The Da Vinci Code has a deeper storyline than the movie. There isn’t as much time to explain everything in a movie.
