Each scholarship is $1,000 to be used for post-secondary education, and up to 17 scholarships will be awarded.

College faculty and staff members, please encourage students to learn more about the Skilled Trade and Education Scholarship applications at www.dalmc.com. The guidelines are also posted on the website. Applications are due by March 11, 2022.

GREEN CORNER

Kara and Piper, our Green Iowa AmeriCorps Sustainability Coordinators, will be bringing us regular facts and tips to green your life and make it more sustainable.

Earlier this week, we began a winter gear drive for the next week and a half for those in need in our communities. All types and sizes of gently used winter gear are welcome - coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, snow pants and boots. Our area preschools and schools could always use items, so children's sizes are especially welcome. You can find donation bins on the Calmar campus in Student Center, Administration, Max Clark, Wilder, IT and the Child Development Center. You can also find bins in Peosta near Student Life and in the Dubuque Center and Town Clock Business Center. By donating your old gear and giving it a new life, you will help keep a staggering 17 million tons of annual textile waste out of the landfill or incinerator. By wearing clothes just one more season, you can reduce the carbon emissions, water footprint and waste generation associated with the manufacturing, purchasing and discarding of new clothing. And most importantly, you will be making sure those in your community stay warm and safe during these cold months!

Tell us you’re an American without telling us you’re an American.

I plead the 5th.

What fictional place would you like to visit?

The fictional place I would like to visit would have to be the Star Wars galaxy. It would be very cool to see the advanced technology and lightsabers, different habitable planets and to be able to travel at light speed.

What would be a good name for a conspiracy-themed restaurant?

The one conspiracy that has always piqued my interest is the Kennedy assassination and the idea of there being two shooters. If I were to name a conspiracy themed restaurant, it would be Oswald’s Drive In.

What lie were you told as a kid? (e.g., if you swallow a watermelon seed, one will grow in your stomach)

The one lie that I was told as a kid was don’t turn on the dome light in the car at night while you are driving. Today we don’t really need to use the dome light in our cars to find something or look at a map while driving. We have our smart phones for those things, to use as a flashlight and for directions.

What fashion trend do you regret?

The one fashion trend I regret doing was having a frosted tips hair style in the early 2000s. I feel some hairstyle trends take longer to fade away than others, but the frosted tips are definitely just cemented in the early 2000s ... and let's keep it there.
