Agenda and Packet: Board of Trustees Oct. 15, 2018 meeting

You Asked. We Delivered!

  1. You can now access Marketing Project Request, Reprint Request, Web Request, Photo Releases and Print Center Request forms through MyCampus! Simply search for Marketing or Print Center Request Forms. (You are still able to access these forms through Google Shared Files.)

Print Center Forms are now Electronic!

The new Print Center Request form is similar to the old one, but easier and faster for you to submit! You simply complete the online form, attach the file you want printed, hit send and you’re done!

Finally, there are a couple updates you will want to be aware of for both the Calmar and Peosta Print Centers.

  1. Delivery & Pick-up

Projects will be delivered to your attention through campus mail (if you are located at a center, delivery will work the same). If you want to pick-up your project, it will need to be done during the Print Center Office Hours:

    • Calmar: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Peosta: 6:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

2. Production Time

Please allow a minimum of 2-3 working days for your project to be produced and delivered. This allows for any printing equipment issues and helps prevent large projects being submitted after office hours and requesting delivery early the next morning. (Know we understand there are unexpected emergency projects; when these occur please submit your request online and call the Print Center and speak with Bobbie or Marzieh to make special arrangements.)

If you have any questions please contact:

Marketing:

Shea Herbst, Peosta, ext. 296

Print Center:

Ashley Konzen, Peosta, ext. 321

APPETIZERS | just a little something.

Early Voting Site Available at the Peosta Campus on Tuesday, Aug. 28!

The Peosta campus Main Building will have an Early Voting Site for the Sept. 11 Bond Continuation Vote from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Please spread the word to students, staff, faculty, friends and neighbors! Important change this year that governs elections in Iowa: During calendar year 2018, voters will be asked to show their ID before voting at the polls. Anyone who does not have the necessary ID will be asked to sign an oath verifying their identity and will be allowed to cast a regular ballot. Valid forms of ID include: an Iowa Driver's License, Iowa Non-Operator's ID, Military ID, U.S. Passport, Tribal ID, Veteran's ID or Voter ID Card. (One of the aforementioned forms of ID will be required to cast a ballot beginning in 2019.)

See other informational documents about the Sept. 11 bond levy vote:

More information about the bond levy campaign is available from Julie Wurtzel at the Calmar campus, wurtzelj@nicc.edu, or Barb O'Hea, at Barb.J.OHea@gmail.com.

JUST DESSERTS | let's celebrate.

Great Teamwork!

Shane Holdridge, operations coordinator at the Town Clock Business Center in Dubuque, applauded College staff at Peosta for their quick thinking and customer service on Tuesday, Aug. 14, saying: "I want to give a shout out to some staff that helped me out this morning. A room rental group for the Town Clock Business Center ended up standing at the Peosta front entrance thinking their meeting was out there. We found them a space in the conference centers and, without hesitation, Alan (CIS), Tammy (Cougar Café) and the switchboard assisted with tech, food and directions for the group. It was a small group, but love the teamwork!" Thank you to our colleagues for pitching in to help each other. Great customer service is sometimes about the little things we do to make a difference.

WELLNESS 360 | be well.

Welcome Back Everyone: Fall Semester 2018!

Please see access these links (Calmar Calendar and Peosta Calendar) to see what's on the wellness agenda between now and December 2018. I’m highlighting a few important events coming up, and you will find additional details on the respective wellness calendars:

  • NICC Proud Week kicks off Aug. 27! Check out employee wellness opportunities during this celebratory week, including a campus-wide shoe scavenger hunt and an “All that We Share” diversity activity on the Peosta and Calmar campuses. There will also be wellness tips shared electronically this week.
  • The Blood Draw and Flu Shot Clinics are now combined so that they are offered on the same mornings; hopefully the double pokes will be convenient for you. These are free for College employees and spouses on the health plan. The nurses will also conduct height, weight, waist and blood pressure measurements. This functions as useful feedback for you and your doctor.
  • There will be two wellness challenges this Fall. The first is a mini-challenge over the course of two work weeks and is solely focused on two health habits. There will also be an activity challenge that is geared towards keeping you moving over two holidays, Halloween and Thanksgiving.
  • Wellness Lunch and Learns are back will be a combination of hands-on activities and informational sessions with guest presenters!

In the spirit of Transcendentalist philosopher, Henry David Thoreau, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined …”

Have a great Fall semester!

Be well,

Flannery

BIG FISH | be amazed.

Lori Schmitz | Business and Community Solutions, Data/Systems Manager

Town Clock Business Center, Dubuque

What is the favorite part of your job or workday at the College?

I truly enjoy pulling data together to assist others with understanding trends in our programming to help them make informed decisions.

What childhood experience most impacted your current set of values or your career path?

Helping my family run a profitable farmer's market business from age 8-18 or so. It was classic hard work that I was not always happy doing, but it helped to shape work ethic.

What is something you love to do that doesn't fit with how others see you?

Most people are surprised to learn that I go deer hunting with my Dad each winter over Christmas break. And yes, I've been successful the past five years! He sets me up pretty well though: We’re talking food plots and multiple hunting houses on an 80-acre paradise for animals (between Charles City and New Hampton).

What fad of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or 00s do you wish would come back into style?

Huge curly hair (I could do that) and teased bangs from the 80s - 90s (just kidding!)

Do you have any particularly strong loyalties to consumer brands (i.e., Ford vs. Chevy, Coke vs. Pepsi, etc.)?

David and I are Honda fans. My family's Honda four-wheeler that we purchased when I was 12 years old (almost 25 years ago) still runs!

If you have input on a upcoming feature, Big Fish, something to celebrate or a suggestion, email us at news@nicc.edu!
