IMPORTANT: Blood Draws and Flu Shots Information

Amidst the current pandemic it's easy to forget the importance of routine preventive care. In light of this fact, the College has made the decision to host our annual campus blood draw and flu vaccine clinic this year. Faculty and staff members are encouraged to participate, especially to get a flu vaccine. All NICC employees may participate in both at no cost. For employees in Peosta and Dubuque, participants wanting only a flu vaccine do not have to register in advance and may drop-in during the designated screening locations and times.

Screening: All participants need to fast for 12 hours before the blood draw for accurate results; however, plain water is permissible. Necessary medications can be taken with water.

The clinic will also include a blood pressure reading, height, waist and weight measurements and a BMI calculation.

Flu vaccine: This is a quadrivalent vaccine to help protect against the four most common strains of influenza predicted for our region this season. This product may contain an egg byproduct, so if you have a history of a severe egg allergy and have had difficulty with vaccines in the past, it is recommended that you follow up with your medical provider prior to receiving your shot.

For more details about the respective campus clinics and the safety requirements, please visit the Wellness Website.

BIG FISH | be amazed.

Mental Health Counselor | Peosta

When you were growing up, what game or activity did you absolutely dread playing, and why?

4 Square was all the rage when I was in elementary school. I was so bad at it, but it was all anyone wanted to play for years.

During your career at Northeast Iowa Community College, what is the nicest thing that ever happened to you, or someone did for you?

I have been here about a month now; everyone has been welcoming and helpful with getting settled and getting set up to start working with students.

What is your favorite movie of all time? (in a particular genre, if it’s easier to answer. e.g., comedy, drama, horror, sci fi.)

It’s a toss-up between Stranger than Fiction, The Truman Show and Fight Club. All three have really interesting premises that really make you stop and think.

Who is your favorite comedian?

Robin Williams, without question.

Is there a book you’ve read that you love so much you’ve read it twice, or even multiple times?

The Harry Potter series has been one I have read many times, and also the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher.

Name one country or region in the world you have never visited that you someday want to visit, serve or spend a vacation?

Egypt to see the Pyramids and Giza and, after watching a recent travel show, a driving tour across Mongolia, believe it or not.

Give your colleagues a suggestion: what are 1, 2, or 3 of your favorite smartphone apps?

Smart News and Weather Channel are ones I use a lot.

In one sentence, how would you explain the Internet?

The Internet has everything wonderful and good possible; it also has everything horrifying and wicked, all at your fingertips.

If you could be an Olympic athlete, in what sport would you compete?

I always thought discus and javelin looked fun.

If you had one million dollars to build anything you wanted, what would you build and why?

A good friend of mine runs a semi-professional music group (of which I am part), and a couple years ago there was a major fire that destroyed a good amount of the music that he had been collecting for many years. If I had a million dollars I would build a music library (fireproof!) and try to collect and replace the lost music.
