September 6th, 2021 Week #4

"My 5 Senses"

"My Body"

This week we learned all about our "5 Senses". Students are focusing on the following words: texture, smooth, and rough. Try going on a treasure hunt in your house for things of different textures. Help your child identify words that will describe how things feel when they use their sense of touch.

In our upcoming week we will focus on "Our Bodies". We will continue our unit of study focusing on our 5 senses. This week students will label all the body parts that help them to explore through their 5 senses.

Looking forward to...

Important Dates:

September 6: Labor Day~ No School

September 15- International Dot Day- Wear your dots and spots!

September 16: Rock Out ~ 6:00-8:00 pm

September 20: No School

Literacy

Students will learn that sentences are composed of words which are made of letters.

We will express our thoughts and ideas through words which can then be written.

Students will practice speaking to an audience by sharing their Journal work with their classmates.

Math

Students are working on subitizing skills! Can you identify a sum of items without counting each one? We are learning how to subitize!

Shape identification is a Pre-K skill. Your child is learning to identify the following shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and oval. Please have fun by practicing identifying shapes with your child.

In Pre-K we begin to understand how we can gather information and record it to show what we know. This is the beginning of graphing data. This week we will graph many different things about ourselves such as our eye color.

Social/Emotional

This week we will focus on what it means to have "listening ears". When we listen and obey we are able to stay safe by following directions. Practice having "listening ears" with your child by playing a game of "Simon Says".

Your child is learning their teacher's job is to keep them safe at school. It is your child's job to help their teacher by listening and obeying.

Please remember ...

Your child needs the following items sent in their backpack, every day:

*a change of clothes in a ziploc bag

*a water bottle that they can manage without spilling

*2-3 healthy snack items (no items that require utensils, please)

*Daily Folder, signed each night

Dismissal Reminder:

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.

Fine Motor Activities

Counting Into Bottles

Work with your child on counting as well as color matching with this activity. Number empty water bottles and mark with with a color. Offer a container of pom-poms and encourage your child to count specific numbers of particular colored pom-poms into each water bottle.

Pattern Matching

Using building blocks and an empty egg container, offer your child a pre-drawn pattern for them to match. Try starting with two colors and work up to three or four as they feel confident in this skill.

Lid Sorting

Using an empty shoe box and colored lids, offer your child an opportunity to count, match colors, and help their fine motor skills. Children will select particular colored lids and drop a certain amount into the matching colored slot. Encourage your child to count out loud as they enjoy dropping lids into the box.

Big Pre-K News!

So far, we are waiting very patiently for our butterfly to be ready to hatch. The students are really enjoying daily check ins with the critter. We will keep you posted on Cutie Patootie's progress. Fingers crossed we have a butterfly to set free soon!

Pre-K Sign Up Genius

Masks...

For students who wear masks, please put 5-6 masks in a ziplock bag and place it in your student's backpack. We know masks provide comfort for some students and we wouldn't want them to worry if they get lost, soiled, forgotten or broken.

If you desire your child to wear a mask at school, we ask that you practice this with them at home. It is very hard to keep a 4 or 5 year old in a mask all day at school when they are not used to wearing one elsewhere. Thank you for your understanding.
