Reading:

This first week of school, we learned the expectations for our classroom and enjoyed getting to know one another. We had fun decorating our Reader's Response Journals that we will use to respond to literature throughout the year. We began a discussion about what Readers' Workshop will "Look and Sound Like."

Next week, we will continue to learn about Readers' Workshop and will learn how to shop for for "Just Right" books. In addition, we will learn how to record what we read in class in our daily reading logs. Students will also learn the expectations of "Partnership Menus" and how they are a resource for sharing what we learn from the text we read.

Math:

This week we have been setting up our Math Journal to get ready for our exciting year of mathematics as a 3rd grader. We practiced working together in Math Workshop and discussing what our expectations for what Math Workshop should look like and sound like in order for us to learn, grow, and practice showing our grit and growth mindset.

Next week we will be taking our AIMSweb testing in Math, continuing to launch our Math Workshop, and beginning to work on Place Value.

In Grammar we will be focusing on plural nouns.

Science

This week we have been setting up our Science class expectations and getting to know the classroom.

Next week we will begin our matter unit over liquids, solids, and gases.

We are so excited about using Scholastic News and Science Spin this year! Our Tigers will get to read kid-friendly current events. They will be reading engaging informational stories on the 3rd grade level. Please send a check payable to Scholastic News for $8.48 as soon as possible. These newspapers will arrive soon and will keep coming weekly all year long. Yay! It will be one or your child's favorite things to read and share with you.

THANK YOU----THANK YOU

The sounds in the classrooms and hallways just made us feel fabulous. Also, thank you so much for helping each of us with our wish lists. We truly are so grateful for each of you. We are looking forward to a FANTASTIC year. If you need anything, please reach out to us.

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.
