Repeat Information: Our first auction with be October 29th! This was one of the main reasons for earning money in 5th grade. So many students are already so excited for this day! We will take class time to learn how to write a check, deposit slips and how to keep a financial record.

Science & Social Studies

This week in Science, we will be kicking off unit 5! This covers interdependency between living and nonliving organisms in an environment. We will study how organisms depend on all parts of their habitat for survival.

Students should be working on their dioramas and research slides!

Students have selected their habitat and one animal within that habitat to explore. Students are working on BOTH a presentation and a diorama project for their grade.

The majority of the work for this project occurs at home. Click here for more info!

FINAL PROJECTS ARE DUE AND PRESENTED ON THURSDAY, OCT 21st!

This week in Social Studies, we wrap up our study of the 4 original settlements and early explorers and we will have our FIRST NINE WEEKS DISTRICT TEKS CHECK ON FRIDAY, 10/8

Reading/ Writing

This week in Reading, we will be starting our book clubs. Students will be assigned a book to read on Monday. Students will be given a calendar of dates (posted in Canvas) that will tell them how many pages they need to read for each book club meeting. This will also tell them the job that they will have to do. The jobs are also posted in Canvas. We will go over all this information on Monday. **Students are always allowed to take their book home and read and work on their jobs at night**

We will be going to the library this Tuesday during class! If your child has books that need to be returned or renewed (like their book talk book) please remind them to put them in their backpacks

Students will also be working on their week 6 poetry assignment. This is posted in Canvas and due on Friday.

. This is a reminder that the 1st book talk assignment will be due on Oct. 12--this is a CHANGE to the original date!! The rubric for this is posted in Canvas.

In writing, we are continuing to work on writing our own personal narratives. We are including a small moment in time, emotions in our hook and throughout our story, as well as remembering to capitalize words correctly (like we are continuing to discuss in our Patterns of Power grammar work). We are working on writing good endings to our writing. This week we are working on writing with strong verbs and specific nouns.

Students will receive new spelling words Monday in class. They will need to complete 2 spelling activities (posted in canvas) by this Friday Oct. 15. Their spelling test will be this Thursday Oct. 14.
