Math

The Geometry City projects look AMAZING! So proud of their hard work and effort on these. This week our main focus is preparing for the Math STAAR test on May 10th. We will review all concepts learned in 5th grade through mini lessons and google form check ins that will be graded. Students will be in groups where they will work together on the check ins. I will be pulling small groups throughout the week to go over STAAR strategies, tips and tricks for test taking to help alleviate any anxious feelings about STAAR.

I posted an announcement in Math Canvas that has links to Google Forms with all 5th grade concepts with STAAR questions. It is not a requirement or graded, but I highly encourage your child to do some of these at home on top of the homework this week to feel even MORE prepared for STAAR :)

Your child will receive another page of homework to complete this week. We will grade it in class together on Friday!

2nd 5th Grade Auction:

The 5th grade teachers and I are working on another Auction for the students to enjoy in the final days of 5th grade. I don't have a date set yet but it will most likely be the last week of school. I have created an Amazon list of items they helped me come up with of things they would like to bid on with their Eppersonian bucks. If you have any interest in helping that day, I would love a few volunteers, please email me and let me know!

Science & Social Studies

This week in Science, we are launching our fun content review stations! We cover so much material over the course of the year, so it's time to start refreshing stuff we learned early on. These are engaging and hands-on ways to review the material as we prepare to wrap up our year!

We will also have fun STEM stations on May the 4th (be with you!) as well as Cinco de Mayo Science on 5/5!

In Social Studies this week, we are continuing our study of the 20th century. We are exploring more modern times, starting off with the Persian Gulf War. We then cover the 2000 Presidential election of George W. Bush and the Sept. 11th attacks. We will also spend time examining the War on Terror as well as American involvement in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom. We will wrap the week up with the 2008 Obama election as well as the 2016 Trump election.

Reading/ Writing

This week the students will be working through a Rockin' STAAR Review. We will be covering fiction review, informational review, poetry, review, drama review, and argumentative review. Students will also be practicing using the 2021 STAAR practice that is posted in canvas. Students will also be playing review board games throughout the week!

NO more spelling this year!

Next week we will begin working on our ERA project. Mark your calendars for May 25 from 10-11 for student presentations of their particular Era. Presentations will be in the library!
