Please be sure to check your child's GREAT Tiger folder nightly. We send notes, graded papers, and homework via this folder. You can take the papers out of it nightly. Also, please initial in the day's box that you have seen their GREAT Tiger folder each night. Thank you so much for your help with this. Our Tigers are doing an amazing job with returning their Guided Reading Homework Folder to school each day. Most students remembered their Math homework this week, too! Yay! We are hoping to get our Tigers in a routine of showing you their GREAT Tiger folder, doing their homework, and returning it daily.

Reading:

This week we have been working on the following:

  • using context clues to figure out the meaning of "clunk words" (words we don't know)

  • how to us a SWBST chart to help us summarize (Somebody-Wanted-But-So-Then)

Next week we will:

  • finish reading Stone Fox

  • learn strategies for responding to text questions and how to provide text evidence to support our thinking



Math:

This week we have been working on the following:

Place Value :

  • Rounding to the Nearest 10

  • Rounding to the Nearest 100

Next, week's focus:

  • Rounding to estimate sums in addition problems.

  • Practice with number lines to review previous concepts.

  • Rounding to estimate differences in subtraction problems.


Attention:

  • Homework will continue. It will come home on Monday and needs to be returned by Friday. However, It can be returned any day next week. Thank you! :)






Science:

In science we are reviewing for our upcoming Science Test. The final test will be October 5th. After that, we will begin our Life Cycles Unit.

Our test will be over Classifying Matter (Solids, Liquids, Gases), Changes from Heat, and Mixtures.


Grammar:

This week's focus

  • Week 2: I can use a noun and a verb to make a complete sentence.


Writing:

This week's focus

  • Narratives: Students will continue to develop their personal narratives.

WISH LISTS

Three of our biggest needs right now are

  1. Heavy sheet protectors. We are making goal folders for each child for math, reading, spelling, writing, and science. They will share these folders with you later in the year for their Student Led Conferences.

  2. Play-doh: For science experiments.. it doesn't have to be pretty! It can even be used playdoh that isn't played with anymore. We will be using it for our upcoming Food Chain unit later this school year.

  3. Clorox or Lysol wipes. We are wiping down our desks quite often.
