Please be sure to check your child's GREAT Tiger folder nightly. We send notes, graded papers, and homework via this folder. You can take the papers out of it nightly. Also, please initial in the day's box that you have seen their GREAT Tiger folder each night.


During November, December, and January we will be studying celebrations based on TEKS 10A and 10B. In an attempt to honor a variety of celebrations, we would like to know specific celebrations that are important to your family throughout the year. Please share those celebrations below.

Important Dates to Remember:

~ November 22-26: Thanksgiving Break





Reading:

This week we have been working on the following:

  • identifying the Central Idea or Main Idea of text

  • Tracking our Fluency to determine how many WPM we read. Students set personal Fluency Goals to reach by the end of the 2nd nine weeks. Your child will be bringing home a copy of the first two Fluency Recording Sheets to show you how they have done on their first two timings.

Next week we will:

  • continue to identify the Central Idea of text

  • identify supporting details for a Central Idea

*Guided Reading Homework for next week will include a non-fiction reader with an activity associated with text-features.

Homework is due on Friday, November 19th.



Math:

This week we have been working on the following:

Multiplication:

  • We worked on making different sizes of equal groups and made multiplication equations to match.

  • We made number strings (repeated addition) to match our multiplication equations.

  • We learned new vocabulary: factors and product

  • We updated our Goal Folders.

  • We took our 3's multiplication test this week. (or 0-1's, & 2's 's if we haven't mastered those levels yet.)

Next, week's focus:

  • Multiplying by 4

  • Making Circles & Stars with multiplication and addition equations to match.

  • Increasing our fluency with our Fun Facts.

Remember: Homework is due on Friday, but can come back any day prior to Friday. Thank you so much for helping them with this responsibility.


Science:

In science we are beginning our Food Chains unit.

Our Main Points to learn from this Unit:


  • Energy that moves through a food chain originally \comes from the Sun.

  • Plants get their energy from the Sun, and animals get their energy from plants and other organisms.

  • Removal of an organism from a food chain can affect other organisms.

Grammar:

This week's focus

  • I can use a comma and the word "but" to join two contrasting sentences.



Writing:

Next week's focus

  • Informational Text

  • Students will continue to learn how to write informational text about a topic. We will be working on informational compositions over the next several weeks.


Spelling

Next week, students will learn about R-controlled vowels such as /ar/ /er/ /ir/ /or/ and /ur/. We will practice writing words with these sounds.

Students will receive a spelling list of words to practice the week we return from Thanksgiving break.
