A HUGE THANK YOU....

Thank you so much for helping us transition your children into the STAAR/Interim Assessments this week. They came to school with charged chromebooks, a pair of headphones/earbuds, had a good breakfast from home, was well rested, and most of all....not stressed about the tests. We had practiced with the online tools often, and most of them truly did a good job of using them, taking their time, showing their work, and all of the strategies that we have taught them to use in order to be successful. We have 3 more months to fill in the gaps and teach them the rest of their TEKS for 3rd grade. Please remind them to show their work on their Reading and Math homework. This is exactly what they will need to do on the STAAR test in May. Practice will make it a habit. Good habits will make them rise to the top. Thank you! :)

Please remember to do this:

Please be sure to check your child's GREAT Tiger folder nightly. We send notes, graded papers, and homework via this folder. You can take the papers out of it nightly. Also, please initial in the day's box that you have seen their GREAT Tiger folder each night.

Parents.....

We encourage you to try some of the released practice tests that are available online. This is the first year our students will take the STAAR test, and it is online this year, not on paper. Third graders will have opportunities at school as well to practice. Look for the link in Mrs. Bailey's section of Tiger Den.

Possible field trip in the works...

Hello parents, the 3rd grade team has a possible field trip in the works. With that being said, this is your reminder to please fill out our Volunteer Background Check. These will need to be completed and approved BEFORE you can possibly be a chaperone.

3rd Grade Volunteers Needed - Carnival Project

Hello parents,

If you have some free time and some crafty supplies please consider this volunteer opportunity. The kids will be starting their carnival game project 2/28 and I will need some extra hands with helping them build their creations.

I will have many different supplies already (cardboard, packing tape etc). But, if you have an extra box cutter, a glue gun, packing tape, etc. I would love to have you! With last year being my first year to do this project, I feel like having an adult with a glue-gun station set up will make things much faster and easier!

I will be using a Sign-Up Genius to keep track of who is coming to help. The days available are 3/8 and 3/9. I will be opening up 3/10 if it seems necessary that week. I am hoping all of the kids will be done by 3/9 so we can practice our games before Open house on 3/10.

Feel free to reach out to me at: mandy.wierzbicki@gcisd.net if you have any questions. Thank you for considering this volunteer opportunity!

As always, I appreciate your partnership.

  • completed our Reading Interim Assessment

  • worked on end-of-novel activities for The Cricket in Times Square

Next week, we will:

  • revisit Figurative Language in Poems

Ask Your Child:

Ask your child to tell you what LATCH represents and have them show you their reading homework for the week once they have completed it.

Math:

**Ask your child:

  1. what math goals they are working towards?

  2. about what the acronym "CUBES" stands for in solving word problems.

This week we have been working on the following:

  • We practiced both division and multiplication math facts.

  • We took the Math Interim Assessments and worked so hard! I am very proud of them!

  • We worked on finding equivalent fractions with the numerators being the same and being different.

Next, week's focus will be:

  • We will continue to work on our fact fluency with Reflex, and Splash Learn.

  • We'll continue to work on Frax and complete 1 mission a day.

  • We will begin our geometry unit.

  • We will learn what a quadrilateral and polygon are.

  • We will find and discuss the attributes of 2-D shapes and 3-D solids.

  • This week's homework will be due on Friday.

Science:

In science we are starting our Formation of Soil unit.

Our Main Points to learn from this Unit:

  • The Earth is constantly changing.

  • Soil is made of weathered rock and decomposed plant/animal remains.

  • Weathering is the process that breaks down Earth’s rocks into smaller and smaller pieces over time.

  • The materials in soil vary from place to place.
