This Week in 5th Grade!

January 24 - January 28, 2022

Math

This week in math we will continue our learning with fraction operations and models.

5th graders will learn how to divide a whole number by a unit fraction and a unit fraction by a whole number. A unit fraction is a fraction with a 1 for a numerator. The way I like to show them how to divide fractions and whole numbers is to think of it like their fast facts.

Example: ⅕ ÷ 3 = 1/15

Start with a fraction of a whole, you end with a fraction of a whole.

3 ÷ ⅕ = 15

Start with a whole number, your answer is a whole number.

We will also work on modeling the division problems and problem solving with word problems. We will integrate multiplication and division word problems together this week to learn how to decipher what operation to do.

Our homework for this week is to complete three missions in FRAX! There will be no homework in Canvas.

Science & Social Studies

NO SCHOOL MONDAY!

This short week in Science, we will study the water cycle and specifically, the Sun's role within this process.

Daily STEMScopes assignments continue this week.
