Spiders, Scorpions, and Worms

It's creepy, crawly time in Pre-K! We are exploring the amazing world of spiders, scorpions, and worms. Students will learn words such as "arachnids", "spiders", "scorpions", "worms", and "cricket". Ask your child what they know about "arachnids". You might be surprised at all they can share with you!

Looking forward to...

Literacy

This week we will focus on:

  • Two phonemes (sounds) can be blended to form a one-syllable word.

  • Each letter of the alphabet has an order of strokes to correctly draw its shape.

  • Expressive ideas can be recorded with illustrations and words.

  • Organizing information helps to make comparisons.

Math

This week we will focus on:

  • Comparing is a strategy for finding the difference between two quantities.

  • The difference is the number of counts up (or down) from one number to the other.

  • Joining and "counting up" are strategies for adding.

  • Seperating, taking from, and "counting down" are strategies for subtracting.

Social/Emotional

This week we will focus on:

  • I can express myself in a kind and safe way.

  • I can share with others when it's time to play.

  • I can look for ways to help others.

Kindergarten Writing Readiness

All through Pre-K we work hard on perfecting our "fine motor" skills. A big part of being ready to write is strengthening our hands, increasing our fine motor skills. Try this fun activity at home to help your child gain hand strength and increase their writing abilities.

Here is a fun idea for your child that will encourage letter skills as well as strengthen their fine motor skills.

Using cardboard box pieces, write out the uppercase letters of the alphabet or use letter stickers. On wooden clothes pin clips, write the lowercase letters. encourage your child to clip the matching letters while saying their name and sound.

Extension: Your child can write the letters as they successfully clip them with their match. Your child can clip particular letters such as the letters found in their own name! Enjoy spending time together while helping your child build their academic and physical skills.

Pre-K Support Needed

Our classrooms are extra blessed when items on our wish lists appear. We have had some parents ask if we had an Amazon Wish List for our classrooms. We have linked our wish lists below for your consideration.

Thank you to those who have helped supply classroom needs. If you are able to help any teacher, we greatly appreciate your kindness.

*a change of weather appropriate clothes in a ziploc bag

*a water bottle that they can manage without spilling

*2-3 healthy snack items (no items that require utensils, please)

*Daily Folder, signed each night

Daily Folders

Each school day, your child brings home their Daily Folder. Please make sure you are signing the GREAT Chart nightly and returning it to school on the following day. Your support and communication is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Dismissal Reminder:

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.
