Financial Literacy Begins in Math

Your child will probably be coming home and talking to you about how they are going to be earning an income this week in Math. Their "payday" is on Fridays. They will be earning points throughout the week on Class Dojo. On Friday I will pay them "Lee Bucks" with the amount of points they have accumulated over the week. During the week of April 4th, they will still be earning an income, but they will have expenses to pay as well. More info to come next week. Here are ways they can earn money this week.

  1. Have 5 Green Lights on Reflex by Friday

  2. Have a charged Chromebook every day

  3. Complete an Education Galaxy Goal

  4. Finish a Mission on Frax each day

  5. Have a Parent Sign Their Great TIger Folder each day

  6. Have Completed Homework on Friday

  7. Being on TIme

  8. Teamwork during Math Workshop

  9. Working Hard

  10. Keeping Their Workplace Neat

This week is only for earning money. They are excited about this and so am I! It is going to be a fun way to learn how to earn, save, and spend money using Class Dojo and Lee Bucks.

Reading: Ms. Pease

This week we have been working on the following:

  • Fables: we have read a few fables and discussed the characteristics of a fable. We identified the moral and how we can apply that moral to our own lives.

  • we reviewed authors' purposes for writing: to inform, persuade or encourage, and to entertain.

Next week, we will:

  • demonstrate knowledge of distinguishing characteristics of well-know children's literature in legends and myths.

Ask Your Child:

Ask your child which fable they enjoyed reading the most. What was the moral of the story?

Spelling: Ms. Pease

  • Next week, students will learn about the "i before e, except after c" rule. We will learn about and identify words with the vowel team /ie/ and /ei/

  • The spelling test on vowel teams will be on Friday, April 8.

Grammar: Ms. Pease

I can use prepositions to explain where and when

Next week, we will continue practicing our Preposition Song and will learn to identify prepositions and object of the preposition within a prepositional phrase.

(Wow! That's a lot of prepositions.)

Math:

**Ask your child....

  1. about our Math Class Dojo and Financial Literacy

  2. what goal they are currently working towards mastering.

This week we have been working on the following:

  • We practiced both division and multiplication math facts.

  • We sorted and classified 2-D and 3-D shapes and according to their attributes.

  • We learned about quadrilaterals & parallelograms.

Next, week's focus will be:

  • We will continue to work on our fact fluency with Reflex, and Splash Learn.

  • We'll continue to build our understanding of fractions with the Frax app and complete 1 mission a day.

  • We're going to begin our financial literacy by using Class Dojo and Lee Bucks!

  • We will learn how to find the area of rectangles.

  • This week's homework will be due on Friday.

Science:

In science we are starting our Earth's Resources Unit.

Our Main Points to learn from this Unit:

  • Natural resources are earth materials that are used by humans and other living things.

  • Conserving natural resources will help ensure that they will be available in the future.

Writing: We are starting our Fairy Tale Unit.

Main Focuses:

  • We will be focusing on creating strong stories.

  • We will be careful when editing our papers and following a checklist.

  • We will also be thinking of the reader in mind. What gets them excited to read our writing? What should we add to make things flow easily?
