Financial Literacy : Week 4 & ongoing

Our 3rd grade Tigers have completed week 4 of earning, saving, and spending their Lee Bucks in Math. They will continue to earn points throughout the week on Class Dojo. On Friday I will pay them "Lee Bucks" with the amount of points they have accumulated over the week. During Week 4 & beyond, they will have expenses to pay as well. Here are ways they can earn money this week.

  1. Have 5 Green Lights on Reflex by Friday

  2. Have a charged Chromebook every day

  3. Complete an Education Galaxy Goal

  4. Complete IXL lessons

  5. Finish a Mission on Frax each day

  6. Have a Parent Sign Their Great TIger Folder each day

  7. Have Completed Homework on Friday

  8. Being on TIme

  9. Teamwork during Math Workshop

  10. Working Hard

  11. Keeping Their Workplace Neat


They can lose points for not having or doing the 10 above items, as well.


Some of the opportunities to spend their money this week will be....


  1. Rent their desk (daily or weekly)

  2. Buy a surprise from a bag

3, Buy a free pick from the Treasure Chest

4. Buy Patio Dining with Mrs. Lee



Closed Campus.

Our campus will be closed to all visitors and volunteers due to STAAR testing from May 9-18.

This week we have been working on the following:

  • practicing our fairytale dramas with our groups

  • making inferences using what we learn from the text and our own prior knowledge

Next week, we will:

  • make a video of our fairytale drama

  • Homework for the Week of May 2-6 will be to practice the highlighted standards on our "Study Plan" or "Assignments" in Education Galaxy. Students will have a copy of their plan in their Reading Homework Folder and are to practice each night on a specific standard

Ask your child:

Ask your child to give you examples of synonyms and antonyms

Spelling: Ms. Pease

  • Next week, students will receive a list of antonyms/synonyms as their "Just Right" spelling list.

  • Students will take a test on Friday, May 6.


Grammar: Ms. Pease

I can identify synonyms and antonyms.

Next week, we will continue to work with synonyms and antonyms in context and will also review homophones.








Math:

**Ask your child....

  1. about their Piggy Bag and how much money they are earning/spending each week.

  2. what goal they are currently working towards mastering...

This week we have been working on the following:

  • We practiced both division and multiplication math facts

  • We reviewed Patterns with Numbers, fractions on a number line, and strategies to use for solving word problems.

Next, week's focus will be:

  • We will continue to work on our fact fluency with Reflex, and Splash Learn.

  • We'll continue to build our understanding of fractions with the Frax app and complete 1 mission a day.

  • We will review perimeter, area, and fractions (equivalent and comparing)

  • This week's homework will be due on Friday.



Science:

In science we are starting our Sun Unit.

Main Ideas to know:


  • The Sun is our closest star and is composed of gas, like all stars.

  • The Sun is the major source of energy for Earth.

  • The Sun's energy warms the Earth.

  • The Sun's energy provides sunlight for plants to grow and produce food in a food chain.



Writing: We are in our Fairy Tale Unit.


Main Focuses:


  • We will be focusing on creating strong stories.


  • We will be careful when editing our papers and following a checklist.


  • We will also be thinking of the reader in mind. What gets them excited to read our writing? What should we add to make things flow easily?


  • We are making SO much progress on our fractured fairy tales! Be sure to ask your child what they are writing about.
