This Week in 5th Grade!

November 1 - 5, 2021

Math

The auction was SO MUCH fun for the kiddos and me. Thank you again to all who donated, helped out and made this Auction possible. I cannot thank you enough! Special shout out to Tamaron Hunt, Devon Barry, Liz and Scott Payne and Stephanie Wilkerson for helping me plan and run the auction!

This week in math, we will continue our learning with multiplication and long division with a focus on problem solving. Students will also learn the difference between a prime and composite number. We will work through activities that reinforce these concepts before their test. TSW receive a Unit 3 Review on Tuesday to complete as homework this week. No homework in Canvas, just the paper review.

The Unit 3 test will be on Tuesday November 9th.

Science & Social Studies

This week in SCIENCE, we will wrap up our study of environmental changes, complete a multi-unit review, and complete our next district TEKS Check. This will cover units 4-8 and I will provide a test review. The students are really doing well with this material!

This week in SOCIAL STUDIES, we will split between making up time lost last week in unit 3 and beginning unit 4 - The Road to Revolution!

Reading/ Writing

This week we will continue our book club book schedule, with our book club meetings on Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure your child has read up to their number of pages and their jobs are complete for each meeting. We will be finishing our books next week, then we will have our final book projects!

Students have been given a calendar of dates (posted in Canvas) that tells them how many pages they need to read for each book club meeting. This also tells them the job that they will have to do. The jobs are also posted in Canvas. **Students are always allowed to take their book home and read and work on their jobs at night**

Our 2nd book talk will be due Dec. 10. This book talk will be told from the main character's point of view. The rubric will be the same as last time, and is still posted in Canvas.

Students will have Poetry Week 9 due on Friday.

We will be writing creative turkey stories over the next couple of weeks. Students will be disguising a turkey to go with their stories. The disguises will be done AT HOME!

Students will receive new spelling words Monday in class. They will need to complete their spelling activity (posted in canvas) by Friday Nov. 12 Their spelling test will be Thursday Nov. 11. This will be our last spelling test/activity for this semester. We will start back up in January.
