Tuesday, May 17- Ft. Worth Zoo Field Trip Information

The following information should help us ensure that we have a fun experience for all.

Your child should wear his/her O. C. Taylor T-shirt, sunscreen, comfortable tennis shoes, hat/sunglasses (optional)

Your child should bring a disposable sack lunch and a water bottle (refill stations are available throughout the zoo and in the zoo restaurants).

We will not visit the gift shop so please do not send money with your child. Chaperones, we respectfully ask that you do not purchase items for the children in your group, including your own child. Children can become upset when another child or group has "all the things" and they do not. Feel free to ask a 2nd-grade teacher any clarifying questions/concerns that you may have regarding this request. We appreciate your understanding.

Schedule: We will depart O.C. Taylor at 9:15 a.m. and arrive at the FW Zoo around 9:45. We will enter the zoo when it opens at 10:00. Chaperones will need to purchase tickets at the gate and then meet your group inside the zoo on the other side of the bridge (near the flamingo exhibit and monkey house).

10:00-11:30 Visit the exhibits

11:30-12:00ish Lunch. There are various picnic areas located throughout the zoo.

12:00-1:00 Visit the exhibits

1:00 Return to the front of the zoo. We will have children line up by homeroom class, take a headcount, and then load the buses. We will leave the zoo and return to O.C. Taylor.

Chaperones: We will send a paper copy of the schedule, including your group members, in your child's GREAT Tiger folder on Monday.

Math at Home

Please make sure your child is practicing addition and subtraction facts each night.

Here are some ways to practice in fun ways:

  • Practice math facts orally while you're driving somewhere.

  • Use flashcards and make it a game by trying to race the clock to see how many they can solve in a certain amount of time.

  • They also have many math apps downloaded to their school iPad that they can use at home.

Learning Commons

Please help your child find any missing library books so they can be returned. All library books are due by May 2.

Spring Cleaning?

Have you found the urge to purge? Are you cleaning out bookshelves and cabinets?

Your second-grade teachers will happily accept used picture books, early chapter books, puzzles, and games.

Books help us build classroom libraries and keep collections interesting and relevant. Old puzzles and games help us with cooperation, problem solving, creativity, and indoor recess.

Let us help you with your donation piles!

Donations Appreciated

Treasure Box-

We are now accepting treasure box donations for our classrooms. We will happily accept small rewards/trinkets such as pencils, stickers, and Happy Meal toys.
