Nurturing Earth...changes in our Earth

In Pre-K this week we will explore and appreciate the beauty and resources of the earth. They will discover ways to protect animals, plants, and all the natural resources the earth provides us. Strike up a conversation with your child about the places you've been on vacations such as National Parks, or National Landmarks. Enjoy looking at famous natural wonders online with your child.

Literacy

This week we will focus on:

  • Two phonemes (sounds) can be blended to make a one-syllable word.

  • Sentences begin with an uppercase letter and end with a punctuation mark.

  • Each letter of the alphabet has a unique name, sound, and shape.

  • Information can be gathered from many sources (literature, informational text, poems, songs).

Math

This week we will focus on:

  • Sets can be broken apart and rearranged into smaller groups.

  • Equal shares are sets that each have the same number (quantity).

  • Even if a set is arranged into smaller groups, the number in the original set does not change.

Social/Emotional

This week we will focus on:

  • I can interact with peers in different situations.

  • I can keep myself clean by washing my hands and my face.

Field Day!

Friday, May 20th is our scheduled Field Day! We can't wait to have loads of fun with all our Tiny Tigers.

You may join us for field day from 8:30-11:00. Please fill out the Fast Pass if you want to be able to avoid the line at the kiosk. Please make sure you have filled out the Pre-K Lunch Choice-google doc to let us know if your child will be coming with a sack lunch or if your child needs to get a sack lunch from the cafeteria. You may choose to stay and eat with your child outside. Hope to see you there!

Don't forget to have your child wear their Eye of the Tiger class shirt and to apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school.

Register for Kindergarten

We are preparing for the 2022-2023 school year and want to remind our Pre-K parents that registration for Kindergarten is now open in Skyward. As a reminder, the primary guardian will need to complete the registration in Skyward Family Access by next Friday, May 20.

If you have trouble registering for the 2022-2023 school year, please contact your campus registrar or onlinereg@gcisd.net.

Kindergarten Writing Readiness

All through Pre-K we work hard on perfecting our "fine motor" skills. A big part of being ready to write is strengthening our hands, increasing our fine motor skills. Try this fun activity at home to help your child gain hand strength and increase their writing abilities.

Create a horizontal poster of various designed lines. Try making zig-zags, curly cues, and wavy lines. Invite your child to place dot stickers all along the design of the lines. Enjoy!

Pre-K Support Needed

Our classrooms are extra blessed when items on our wish lists appear. We have had some parents ask if we had an Amazon Wish List for our classrooms. We have linked our wish lists below for your consideration.

Thank you to those who have helped supply classroom needs. If you are able to help any teacher, we greatly appreciate your kindness.

Dismissal Reminder:

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.
