Mammals, Oh my!

This week we will begin our unit titled, "Animals". Within this unit we will study animals, reptiles, sea life, and birds. During this week, students will enjoy learning that mammals are a special kind of animal that breathe air, has a backbone, grows hair, and is warm-blooded. Mammals also feed their young with milk from the mother. Children will consider these characteristics to reach the conclusion that they are mammals, too!

Literacy

This week we will focus on:

  • Sentences are made of words.

  • Each uppercase letter has a matching lowercase letter.

  • Each letter of the alphabet has a unique shape, name, and sound.

  • Personal connections to vocabulary deepen an individual's understanding.

Math

This week we will focus on:

  • Some quantities change in a predictable "one-more" pattern.

  • Some quantities change in a predictable "one-less" pattern.

  • Quantities can be ordered from fewest to greatest or greatest to fewest.

Social/Emotional

This week we will focus on:

  • I can ask for help from a trusted adult.

  • I can think of ways to solve my problem.

  • I can look for ways to help others.

Looking forward to...

Kindergarten Writing Readiness

All through Pre-K we work hard on perfecting our "fine motor" skills. A big part of being ready to write is strengthening our hands, increasing our fine motor skills. Try this fun activity at home to help your child gain hand strength and increase their writing abilities.

This week's activity will encourage your child's fine motor skills through shaving cream and a flat surface. Simply squirt out a small amount of shaving cream onto a flat surface such as a cookie sheet. Spread the shaving cream out and encourage your child to write with their pointer finger. You can display letters, numbers, shapes, and even CVC words for your child to reference. Have fun!

Pre-K Support Needed

Our classrooms are extra blessed when items on our wish lists appear. We have had some parents ask if we had an Amazon Wish List for our classrooms. We have linked our wish lists below for your consideration.

Thank you to those who have helped supply classroom needs. If you are able to help any teacher, we greatly appreciate your kindness.

Repeated Information...

Your child needs the following items sent in their backpack, every day:

*a change of weather appropriate clothes in a ziploc bag

*a water bottle that they can manage without spilling

*2-3 healthy snack items (no items that require utensils, please)

*Daily Folder, signed each night

Daily Folders

Each school day, your child brings home their Daily Folder. Please make sure you are signing the GREAT Chart nightly and returning it to school on the following day. Your support and communication is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Dismissal Reminder:

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.
