"Building Tools & Simple Machines"

This week we will continue to explore the concept of "building" with a specific focus on simple machines, tools that help us to build. Students will understand that tools are used for work and play. Simple machines involve instruments that are used for specific tasks and help people to complete their jobs. Students will enjoy designing, creating, building and explaining their structures. Be sure to talk with your child about their explorations at school this week. They will have lots to share with you about using Simple Machines. How can you incorporate simple machines with times of play and exploration with your child at home?

Literacy

This week we will focus on:

  • Specific letter names/sounds

  • Alliteration

  • Ending punctuation marks

  • Letter Sounds: /a/, /g/, and /h/

  • Letter Writing-/Yy/ and /Zz/

Math

This week we will focus on:

  • measuring objects with same-size units

  • weight can be used to measure and compare

Social/Emotional

This week we will focus on:

  • Understanding our feelings

  • Knowing it's okay to be happy or sad

Please remember ...

Your child needs the following items sent in their backpack, every day:

*a change of weather appropriate clothes in a ziploc bag

*a water bottle that they can manage without spilling

*2-3 healthy snack items (no items that require utensils, please)

*Daily Folder, signed each night

Daily Folders

Each school day, your child brings home their Daily Folder. Please make sure you are signing the GREAT Chart nightly and returning it to school on the following day. Your support and communication is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Dismissal Reminder:

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.
