Changes, in and around me.

This week Pre-K students will learn about the changes that take place in and around them. We will study how changes take place all around us and learn that everyone experiences changes. Some changes are minor and some are major! We will discuss how changes can be quick to happen or take a long time in the process. Children will learn that some changes are mental (thoughts, knowledge) and others are physical. Enjoy discussing changes with your child by sharing baby pictures of relatives and guessing who they are today.

Send in Baby Pictures!

This week as we discuss changes, we will view our classmates' baby pictures and guess who they are today. Please help us by sending in a baby picture either in person or by email to your child's teacher. We appreciate all of you that responded so quickly to our email request for baby pictures. The students are going to really have fun with this lesson. Thank you for your support!

Literacy

This week we will focus on:

  • Rhyming words have the same middle and ending sounds.

  • Sentences begin with an uppercase letter and end with a punctuation mark.

  • Words and pictures communicate thoughts and ideas.

  • Connecting text to personal experiences increases understanding.

Math

This week we will focus on:

  • Events can be categorized as happening before, during, and after.

  • Time can be measured by minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months.

  • All living things grow and change through a series of life stages.

Social/Emotional

This week we will focus on:

  • I can identify my emotions.

  • I can help my friends when they are upset.

  • I can have self-control.

  • I have self-confidence.

  • People need food, clothing, and shelter.

Kindergarten Writing Readiness

All through Pre-K we work hard on perfecting our "fine motor" skills. A big part of being ready to write is strengthening our hands, increasing our fine motor skills. Try this fun activity at home to help your child gain hand strength and increase their writing abilities.

This week we are encouraging you to get outside with your Pre-K student and have some sidewalk chalk fun! Try asking your child to draw shapes, letters, and numbers with their chalk. For an extension, encourage them to write sight words or CVC words that they've learned. Have fun!

Pre-K Support Needed

Our classrooms are extra blessed when items on our wish lists appear. We have had some parents ask if we had an Amazon Wish List for our classrooms. We have linked our wish lists below for your consideration.

Thank you to those who have helped supply classroom needs. If you are able to help any teacher, we greatly appreciate your kindness.

Dismissal Reminder:

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.
