This Week in 5th Grade!

January 31 - February 4, 2022

Math

This week in math we will prepare for our Unit 5 Fractions test on Thursday February 3rd. The students will have a review that will really help to prepare them for the test.

This test covers:

  • Adding and Subtracting unlike fractions

  • Multiplying whole numbers and fractions

  • Dividing unit fractions and whole number

  • Simplifying and making mixed numbers

  • All with models

If your child would like more practice, IXL is a great option for review. I have starred all of the concepts that will help prepare for the test on Thursday!

Our homework for this week is to complete three missions in FRAX! There will be no homework in Canvas.

Science & Social Studies

This week in Science, we are continuing our study of Space Science, specifically the comparison of the Sun, Earth, and Moon and how they impact patterns here on earth. Students must be able to identify similarities and differences between the three.

Daily STEMScopes assignments continue this week.

In Social Studies, we are beginning an exciting new unit! We are moving away from the Revolution and have established our new government under the Constitution.

Now we will move into our study of the War of 1812, the Star-Spangled Banner, the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis & Clark, the expansion of the railroad and immigration, leading up through the Industrial Revolution. This is an exciting 4 week unit with lots of content!
