Saying "No" to Your Child
As much as we like to say yes to our children, sometimes we have to say no. It's important to set boundaries with your child, so when you say no, make sure you have a good reason, and make sure you follow through.
Make your answer definitive. Say it firmly.
Offer a short, simple explanation for why you are saying no.
Make it clear you won't change your mind, no matter how much whining and crying happens. Avoid arguing and don't get into a power struggle.
If your child throws a fit, try to not give it a lot of attention. Praise your child when his/her behavior is acceptable.
No one likes to upset their child, but remember that it is okay for children to experience disappointment and frustration. It gives you an opportunity to teach your child how to handle feelings in a healthy way.
Make sure you are saying yes often! Kids need opportunities to explore and try new things. If you find yourself saying no too often, think about why. Sometimes it's okay to say no if you just don't want to do something, but don't let it be a habit.

***Reminders***
We have students with allergies in our classroom. Please make sure your child's snack is nut-free.
Please check your child's backpack and restock with pull-ups or diapers as needed. Please label all outerwear, snack containers, etc.
Moms, please reply to Ms. Rhonda's email with a picture of you with your child for our Mommy and Me slideshow, if you haven't already done so. Thanks!
