Good News... Field Trip Forms are being sent home this Monday, April 18th. Be on the lookout in your child's G.R.E.A.T. Tiger Folder!

**Volunteer Background Check: Click Here to complete the required GCISD Volunteer Background Check. You must be approved BEFORE you can possibly be considered to be a chaperone.

**The forms and payment will be due FRIDAY, April 22nd. The field trip will be WEDNESDAY, April 27th. This will be a fast turn around. For chaperones, we will be having a lottery system and 4 parents will be able to attend for each homeroom. If you are chosen/not chosen through the lottery to be a chaperone, we will let you know by the end of the day WEDNESDAY, April 20th. We appreciate your partnership and patience! We are thrilled that we are able to experience a field trip this year!

Financial Literacy : Week 3

Our 3rd grade Tigers have completed week 3 of earning, saving, and spending their Lee Bucks in Math. They will continue to earn points throughout the week on Class Dojo. On Friday I will pay them "Lee Bucks" with the amount of points they have accumulated over the week. During Week 2 and beyond, they will have expenses to pay as well. Here are ways they can earn money this week.

  1. Have 5 Green Lights on Reflex by Friday

  2. Have a charged Chromebook every day

  3. Complete an Education Galaxy Goal

  4. Finish a Mission on Frax each day

  5. Have a Parent Sign Their Great TIger Folder each day

  6. Have Completed Homework on Friday

  7. Being on TIme

  8. Teamwork during Math Workshop

  9. Working Hard

  10. Keeping Their Workplace Neat


They can lose points for not having or doing the 10 above items, as well.


Some of the opportunities to spend their money this week will be....


  1. Rent their desk (daily or weekly)

  2. Buy a pencil or pencil top eraser

3, Buy a free pick from the Treasure Chest



Closed Campus.

Our campus will be closed to all visitors and volunteers due to STAAR testing from May 9-18.

Reading: Ms. Pease

This week we have been working on the following:

  • We learned about the elements of drama such as scene, script, stage direction, setting cast of characters, dialogue and scene

  • took a Post-Test in Education Galaxy to find our strengths and weakness on our reading objectives for third grade

Next week, we will:

  • use the elements of drama such as scene, script, stage direction, setting cast of characters, dialogue and scene to create a short play. Students will work in their groups to re-enact a fairytale using props as well.

  • Homework for the Week of April 18-22 will be to read the story passage "Why Do Snakes Shed Their Skins?" Students are to annotate using LATCH

  • L=label evidence

  • A=add notes on scratch paper

  • T=take your time

  • C=cross out wrong choices

  • H=highlight important information as you read the passage and

Ask Your Child:

Ask your child to tell you the difference between a synonym and an antonym

Ask your child to give you an example of a synonym and an example of an antonym

Spelling: Ms. Pease

  • Next week, students will receive their "just right" spelling lists with suffixes: -ness, -ful, -ly & -less

  • Students will have a test over these words with suffixes on Friday, April 22

Grammar: Ms. Pease

I can identify pronouns used to substitute nouns within a sentence.

Next week, we will continue learning about pronouns. A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.








Math:

**Ask your child....

  1. about their Piggy Bag and how much money they are earning/spending each week.

  2. what goal they are currently working towards masteri

This week we have been working on the following:

  • We practiced both division and multiplication math facts

  • We learned how to find the perimeter of rectangles with a missing length.

  • We learned how to find the area of irregular shapes.

  • We had hands on experiences studying the capacity of liquids in a variety of containers.

Next, week's focus will be:

  • We will continue to work on our fact fluency with Reflex, and Splash Learn.

  • We'll continue to build our understanding of fractions with the Frax app and complete 1 mission a day.

  • We will have hands on experiences studying weight of several objects using scales and balances.

  • We will review equivalent fractions and interpreting graphs. (Data analysis)

  • We will take our Unit 7 assessment over Geometry and Measurement.

  • This week's homework will be due on Friday.



Science:

In science we are taking/reviewing for our Earth Science Test.

Topic we will be reviewing:


Soil:

  • The Earth is constantly changing.

  • Soil is made of weathered rock and decomposed plant/animal remains.

  • Weathering is the process that breaks down Earth’s rocks into smaller and smaller pieces over time.

  • The materials in soil vary from place to place.



Earth's Resources:

    • Natural resources are earth materials that are used by humans and other living things.

    • Conserving natural resources will help ensure that they will be available in the future.


Earth's Forces:

  • Large forces/rapid changes can cause the Earth’s surface/landforms to change suddenly.

  • Volcanic eruptions and earthquakes can cause rapid changes on Earth’s surface such as creating new land, making cracks in the crust, or changing landforms.

  • Landslides can cause rapid change to Earth’s surface such as rocks and debris falling from a rock face.




Writing: We are in our Fairy Tale Unit.


Main Focuses:


  • We will be focusing on creating strong stories.


  • We will be careful when editing our papers and following a checklist.


  • We will also be thinking of the reader in mind. What gets them excited to read our writing? What should we add to make things flow easily?
