This Week in 5th Grade!

January 17 - January 21, 2022

Math

This week in math, we will continue working on adding and subtracting mixed numbers and fractions this week to help keep this concept fresh.

5th graders will learn how to multiply a whole number by a fraction. The students will learn how to draw models to help solve the problem and the standard algorithm for multiplying. This concept requires knowledge of changing improper fractions to mixed numbers, which we have started working on last week with adding and subtracting fractions.

Our homework for this week is to complete three missions in FRAX! There will be no homework in Canvas.

If your child is looking for more fraction practice, IXL is a fantastic resource that has word problems, models, and computation. They can access their IXL through Classlink.

Science & Social Studies

NO SCHOOL MONDAY!

This short week in Science, we will study the water cycle and specifically, the Sun's role within this process.

Daily STEMScopes assignments continue this week.

In Social Studies, we are continuing our study of the structure provided by the U.S. Constitution and we expand our learning to the Bill of Rights.

Students are working on a small project here at school where they decide how to demonstrate their understanding of the three branches of government. No outside-of-school work is expected as they are given class time to complete.
