Compare & Contrast

Real vs. Make-Believe

This week our students will explore the concept of realistic events vs. make-believe events. Students will enjoy comparing and contrasting the characters, settings, and moments found within various stories. Specifically, we will read various versions of The Gingerbread Man and The Gingerbread Girl. We will wrap up the week in literature by reading The Grinch.

December 6-10- Scholastic Book Fair

December 6- Wear blue or bright colors

December 7- Wear red and white

December 7- Book Fair is open until 6:30- Pre-k- 2nd Grade

December 8-Wear white or snowman attire

December 9- Wear black, red, and green

December 10- Wear red

December 10- Spirit Pop up Shop during lunch (Please send money in a labeled baggie with Spirit shop and your child's name on the front.)

December 14- Santa Visit- Parents can come! Use the fastpass sign up to get signed in quickly!

Literacy

This week we will focus on:

  • Rhyming Words

  • Compare and Contrast Stories

  • Letter Sounds "B" "K" "M" and "S"

  • Letter Writing-"W"

Math

This week we will focus on:

  • Measurement-compare & contrast sizes

  • Tools for Measurement

  • Create a baseline for comparing length.

  • Measuring distance of lines vs. curves

Social/Emotional

This week we will focus on:

  • Respecting the personal space of myself and others

  • Identifying appropriate emotions for specific scenarios.

  • Communicating to initiate pretend play with peers



Holiday Classroom Party

Please be on the lookout for an email from our wonderful Grade Level Coordinator, Mrs. Amy Thompson. She will be sending you information regarding our Pre-K Holiday Classroom Party.

When: December 17th

What: Students will decorate cookies and exchange a wrapped puzzle gift.

Polar Express Day is coming!

When: Thursday, December 16th

What: Students are invited to wear their pajamas, bring a blanket, and watch The Polar Express movie. We will serve our students popcorn and hot chocolate during the movie.

Please remember ...

Your child needs the following items sent in their backpack, every day:

*a change of weather appropriate clothes in a ziploc bag

*a water bottle that they can manage without spilling

*2-3 healthy snack items (no items that require utensils, please)

*Daily Folder, signed each night

Daily Folders

Each school day, your child brings home their Daily Folder. Please make sure you are signing the GREAT Chart nightly and returning it to school on the following day. Your support and communication is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Dismissal Reminder:

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office by a phone call by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs.
