Robert Ixer was born in London in 1941, studying at the South East Essex Art School and the St. Martin's School of Art. On leaving school he worked for six years in the studios of various London Advertising Agencies. Disillusioned with the commercial world, he rejected it all and became a pavement artist outside London's National Gallery and also sold his work through Selfridges and Harrods. He then embarked upon a formative period of extensive travel. As well as spending 10 years in Lincolnshire which strongly influenced his style of English landscape painting and 3 years in Cornwall, he and his family spent some time in Canada and particularly New Zealand where he moved in 1984 spending 10 years there, especially in Wellington and on the Kapiti Coast at the foot of the Tararua mountains. The artist moved to Australia in 1999 to continue his painting. As a result of his travels the artist now has a strong circle of admirers in UK, New Zealand and Australia where his work is handled by a number of major galleries.
