Alexander Wallace Rimington: Artist biography.

Alexander Wallace Rimington ARPE RBA (1854-1918) painted and etched landscapes and townscapes. He studied initially in London and Paris. He exhibited no less than 25 works at the Royal Academy during the period 1880-1892, including landscapes of Ireland and Austria and views of Seville, Verona and Dresden. His work is also represented in the Victoria and Albert Museum. He lived much of his life in Weston-Super-Mare in Somerset and later in London. He was the author of a very influential book on painting entitled: Colour-Music. His wife, maiden name Miss Evelyn Jane Whyley, was also an accomplished artist in her own right.

Charming signed framed watercolour by AW Rimington: "The Alpine Hut".

This charming mounted signed glazed and framed watercolour by Alexander Rimington depicts a small mountain hut in summertime, almost certainly in the Pyrenees which the artist visited often. The picture measures approximately 37.5 cm. by 29.5 cm including the handsome gilded frame. The image itself measures approximately 23.5 cm. by 14 cm. The watercolour is in excellent unfaded condition with no foxing. The simple gilded frame has suffered a few superficial scratches but these do not detract.
