Sir David Young Cameron RA was a prominent Scottish painter and dry point artist, particularly of landscapes and architectural views. He has born in Glasgow in 1865. He first studied at Glasgow School of Art and then full time at the Life School of the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. By the 1890s he had gained an international reputation for his etchings and went on to become one of the most famous etchers of his time with a hungry public clamouring for his work. He developed an unique personal style, described as capturing the grandeur of landscape in a sombre mood imbued with mysticism. He exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Scottish Society of Painter in Watercolours, the Glasgow Institute and other prestigious institutions.

The artist was elected a full Royal Academician 1920 and knighted in 1920. He died in 1945.
