DAVID MEAD Landscape artist: Biography - Paintings for Sale

David Mead FCIAD ATCL Artist/Painter (1906 - 1986)

David Mead FCIAD, ATCL (1906-1986): The steps which first led to David Mead becoming a professional painter began in 1910, when at the age of four the family moved from London, where he was born, to Whitstable in Kent. There they lived next door to Daniel Sherrin the well known landscape painter and from the friendly encouragement and guidance he received the artist was able to sell his water colours when still only twelve years old. But it was not until 1946, shortly after his war service with the Air Ministry that he turned to oil painting for a living. Before this, while working in Local Government, he continued to study painting and in 1944 had a picture accepted by the Royal Academy and two years later was made a Fellow of the Central Institute of Art & Design-National Gallery (CIAD). He founded the Medway Art Society and remained as President for four years. Apart from art, David Mead was also an accomplished musician and qualified in piano as an Associate of Trinity College, London (ATCL). David Mead's daughter is the artist Adrienne Cordell.
