Curator's note: Although these two paintings are not quite a pair, they go extremely well together and are clearly contemporary. We would therefore be happy to consider separate offers or to sell together as a pair.

Florencio Vial’s life straddled the centuries. One of Chile's most famous artists, he was born in around 1875 and died in about 1950. He lived and worked for most of his life in the Chilean city of Valparaiso and distant romantic views of the Andes mountains are a recurring theme of his work. His paintings are strongly represented in the Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes de Valparaiso. He typically signed his work F Vial.
