MICK CAWSTON (1959-2006) was born in Dagenham, UK. In his early years he trained as a cabinet maker and also served 3 years in the Army. He then worked as a street artist around London’s Covent Garden, sketching portraits of children in pastels. However, by early 1987 he began to paint seriously in oils. His animal paintings were an immediate runaway success, especially as Limited Edition prints, so that by 1996 he had published his 200th print, entitled “Wildlife 200”, the original of which was sold for Pounds Sterling 3,000 for the benefit of the Animal Health Trust. The first equestrian painting he ever painted won the award for the best newcomer at the annual exhibition held by the Society of Equestrian Artists in London and he was awarded full membership of the Society shortly after.
Mick Cawston is now recognised as one of the finest animal painters the World has ever seen and his work has been compared to that of John Emms or Maude Earl.
Sadly, Mick Cawston passed away before his time in 2006 at the early age of 47, greatly missed by the whole art world.
