Noel Ripley: English Landscape Artist: Biography

Noel Ripley was born in 1944, near High Wycombe. His family moved to East Anglia during the 1950s and Noel Ripley worked initially as a design engineer. In the 1970s he studied and worked in fine art restoration. Noel Ripley has painted professionally since 1982, often portraying rural scenes as they would have appeared in the 19th century. His English landscapes capture wonderfully the majesty of the East Anglian countryside and his treatment of tall elm trees is very reminiscent of the work of Constable, also a masterly portrayer of scenes of that beautiful part of England. This painting is a classic example of Ripley's work in this genre.The work of Noel Ripley can be found in collections both at home and abroad. When not busy painting, the artist is a keen cyclist and cross country runner.
