Henry McLaughlin Artist/Painter born 1937: Biography and Oil Painting for Sale

Henry McLaughlin was born in 1937 in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Together with his family he migrated to Western Australia in 1969. Henry's career started as a Constable serving in the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) in 1959. During his time in Londonderry, Henry met well known artist Arthur Twells, who proved to be one of the early inspirations for Henry's artistic pursuits. In Australia Henry joined the West Australian Police Force in 1970. Henry's talents as a landscape artist were soon recognised by Mr. Athol Webb, Commissioner for the West Australian Police Force and thus Henry was given his first commission to paint a collection of works detailing Western Australia's Historic Police Buildings which now hang in Police Headquarters and form part of Western Australia's history. Henry retired from the Police Force in 1982 to pursue his passion for creating fine works of art full time. His inspiration comes from such masters as Arthur Streeton, Hans Heysen, Leonard Long. Henry's works are collected throughout Australia and overseas. (With acknowledgement to Bestfineart.com)

Henry McLaughlin now enjoys a huge following for his work round the World, first for his earlier works like this one, depicting the Irish landscape and secondly for his superb Australian landscapes, the artist having emigrated to Australia in 1969. Henry McLaughlin is a great favourite with commercial art galleries, a great testament to the enduring popularity of his work.

This lovely work by Henry McLaughlin will appeal to all lovers of his work in Ireland, in Australia and, indeed, throughout the World.

This lovely painting is expertly executed in oil on canvas and is mounted in an original frame of the late 1960s period when the painting must have been painted, before he emigrated. It is entitled: "Peat Land in County Antrim" and depicts a patient donkey being led along a rural byway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, towards a number of small crofts in the middle distance and magnificent mountains beyond. The painting is beautifully executed in oil on canvas, signed by the artist and very handsomely framed. It is in excellent condition and ready to hang. The overall size of the painting including the frame is approximately 49 cm. by 39 cm. The image itself measures approximately 35 cm. by 25 cm. This means that this superb landscape is of an ideal size to grace the walls of any discerning home. The painting is signed by the artist on the front at bottom left and the signature is undoubtedly authentic. On the back, the painting is labelled in pencil in the artist's own hand: Peat Land in Co. Antrim and signed again by the artist (also in pencil). Overall the painting is in excellent near gallery condition and the paint surface perfectly intact, undamaged with no flaking. The original frame is somewhat unusual in that it is partly made of plastic material. This has led to it suffering a few minor abrasions here and there and a tiny chip on one corner. Overall, however, these do not detract and it is pleasing that it is still in its original frame. The painting is ready to hang.
