Peter Horrey: Landscape artist - Biography - Prices at auction - Gallery of art

Peter Horrey, the much respected English landscape artist, was born in Manchester in 1941 and spent much of his childhood in the Lake District which instilled in him a lasting love of the countryside, to be later reflected in his strongly evocative English landscapes. But the artist’s first work was actually as a film editor and it was not until 1980 that his career as a painter finally took off, thanks to adoption and encouragement by the prestigious Omell Gallery in Mayfair. This led to a long and fruitful relationship which established Peter Horrey as a major figure in English landscape art. He is particularly known for his handling of sunlight through leaves and water. Peter Horrey retired to Ireland in 1995 and has continued to paint although latterly battling Parkinson’s Disease with great stoicism.

Peter Horrey’s output of paintings has been quite small so that, as he has become increasingly sought after, prices for his work are starting to rise sharply. For example, recent prices for his paintings have been “the Golden Moment”, a small river landscape, for £495, and his “River Avon at Netton”for £853.
