Photo: Edward VII

RARE ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH: King Edward VII Hunting Party c 1902

We are very pleased to offer you this very rare original photograph of King Edward VII (reigned 1901-1910) in a group that appears to be a country house house shooting party. To the right of the King is his son who succeeded him in 1910 as King George V. But it is fascinating to speculate who ther others are in this remarkable photograph. For example, the lady on the right could be King Edward VII’s wife Queen Alexandra but this is by no means certain. And who is the elderly bewhiskered gentleman in centre stage who must clearly be the host. He must clearly be someone of considerable status, sufficient to be able to consign the King of England to the back row. We believe he may be Andrew Carnegie, the World’s richest man at the turn of the century. Supporting this theory is the fact that the King is known to have visited Andrew Carnegie at the latter’s Scottish home, Skibo Castle, in 1902. Again, however, this is by no means certain. Nor is it known whether the photo was taken just before or just after Edward VII became King. More research is needed on this historic photograph.

This intriguing and historic original photograph (NOT a photocopy) dates from around 1900 and is simply but handsomely mounted, framed and glazed. Including stylish lightly gilded frame, the picture measures approximately 49 cm. by 38 cm. The photograph itself measures approximately 24.5 cm. by 24 cm. The picture is in generally good condition apart from some minor areas of brown discolouration as only to be expected of a photograph well over 100 years old (see images below.) The picture is ready to hang.
