PETER GILMAN Artist Painter: Biography - Paintings for Sale - Auction prices - Pictures on Google Images -

Peter Gilman (1928-1984) was a much loved English landscape and marine artist, painting in a traditional style in watercolours, oils and acrylics. Although he lived his early life in Surrey, he moved to the village of Ashwell in East Anglia in the late 1960s where he he became a full time professional artist and where he started to establish his artistic reputation with charming scenes of the local landscape. He preferred to paint in situ outdoors in all seasons of the year, enjoying the communion between painting and nature. He was much influenced in his work by that of fellow artist Edward Seago. From an early start selling his paintings off the railings at Hyde Park, Peter Gilman quickly rose to considerable prominence in the field of English landscape, eventually tutoring professionally and becoming a member of the prestigious, by invitation only, Wapping Group of Artists. His considerable output, especially of watercolours, found great favour with the general public and secured his long term reputation as one of Britain’s finest landscape artists. Tragically, Peter Gilman passed away before his time in 1984 at the early age of 56. A book about the artist: “Peter Gilman: East Anglia and beyond” by Michael and Adrian Hill, published by Halstar is available from Amazon at a price of around £25.

Prices of Peter Gilman's work achieved at auction can be found on Findartinfo. where it can be seen that some of his watercolours have sold for more than US$500. You can view a fine collection of images of his work on Google Images.
